An update from our Builder – the construction of our new campus has encountered some unforeseen hiccups resulting in setbacks and lost time. In December, we had finally had our much-anticipated concrete pour which had been held up by industry-wide supply issues. Currently, the Builder is contending with a site shut-down mandated by BC Hydro and Worksafe relating to the proximity of a high-voltage line to the construction site. We have been assured that the matter is being resolved and construction is expected to re-commence later this month. Some of the upcoming major items to be completed over the next few months will be completion of the interior wall framing, electrical/mechanical wall rough ins, envelope installation, glazing frames, exterior boarding, and framing. While the construction of a new building and school for our students has certainly proven to be not without its challenges and surprises along the way, the board are working hard behind the scenes to push the project forward, and to have the campus ready for the 2023/2024 academic year.
From the beginning, Alcuin’s teachers, students and parents have dreamed of a “forever home” for the school, a space suitable for our curiosity-based, rigorous, personalised education programme. We bring the community into the classroom with many educational field trips, which makes it important to us to stay near transit and within an urban environment. The site at the corner of Mahon Avenue and Forbes Avenue in North Vancouver is just the right setting. We are very excited about further integration with the community as this is a key part of our educational approach and mission at Alcuin College. Our students and staff are thrilled to be moving to a new home, and to be good neighbours.
