Alcuin College is a progressive, independent K-12 school rooted in curiosity-led learning. Skillful teachers adapt the course of study to how each student best learns, thinks and inquires. We produce well-rounded graduates equipped for university and lifelong learning.
We specialize in providing an innovative, hands-on education based on the Liberal Arts (that is, the fundamental Arts, Mathematics and Sciences, together with the skill of philosophic dialogue). As an independent school on the North Shore, Alcuin attracts students who are coping in their current schools, but are not necessarily thriving, or who are uninspired. We provide students with very small class sizes, personal attention and a challenging curriculum enriched by the resources and expertise available in our local community.
Why do we call ourselves a college rather than a school?
We do so because of the nature of the relationship between our teachers and our students. Historically, in a school, there was a scholar and his disciples. In a college, there is a community of scholars, some of whom are teaching, and all of whom are learning. That is why we, both teacher and student, wear the school uniform; and that is why we are called a college: because we are all companions together in learning.

“As our classes are small, every child is known, understood and has the space to be an individual. We collaborate closely with parents so we always have the insights that help us understand and adapt to their child’s changing needs. Classes are led by educators who are experts in their field; not only teachers but also community leaders from various disciplines. Authentic hands-on learning is a cornerstone of our curriculum, and community partnerships are key in the personalization of each student’s program of studies.
